About Lauren



Lauren J. Mapp is an award-winning journalist and social media specialist based in San Diego, California.


Specializing in culinary, beverage and travel writing, Mapp has a degree in culinary arts and culinary management, as well as the BarSmarts and Certified Beer Server certifications. Her travels have taken her through 11 countries and 32 states thus far, with many more trips left on the bucket list.

Currently working as an intern at inewsource, Mapp is also a senior staff writer at The Daily Aztec and a contributing editor for Times of San Diego. She has been published by the North Coast Current and The National University Herald. She was a staff writer and photographer for Indian Time and The People's Voice, two weekly newspapers in the Kanien'kehá:ka (Mohawk) territory of Akwesasne on the border of New York and Quebec. At both papers, she covered the community and the arts, and wrote food, book and music reviews.

Mapp is the former editor-in-chief of The Mesa Press, where she took photographs and wrote articles in many fields, including foodpoliticsdancecampus issues and sex trafficking. During her four semesters on staff, she also learned to create newspaper layouts for print through InDesign and create informational graphics.

Growing up in Worcester, MA made her the avid Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics fan that she is today. In her free time, Mapp likes to take dance lessons (primarily East Coast swing, Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, Bal Swing and ballet), try new restaurants, read, watch sports, cook and travel.

After graduating from San Diego Mesa College in May 2016 with degrees in culinary arts, journalism and political science, she was hired for Mesa's Office of Communication as a staff writer for the school's online Newsroom. In addition to writing articles about Mesa and its students, faculty and staff, Mapp social media posting,photography and other projects for the office.

Mapp will graduate from San Diego State University in May 2019 with a degree in journalism and a minor in American Indian studies.
