Making cakes for the bride, groom

My friends Rob and Lindsey got married today, and I got to make the cakes for them.

The bride's cake is a two-tier, red velvet with cream cheese frosting, decorated by real flowers; the groom's cake is homemade funfetti (easier said than done) with vanilla frosting in the shape of the San Diego Charger's lightning bolt.

Making two wedding cakes for the same day was a little bit stressful, but I am happy with the way that they came out, and the fact that I got to participate in their special day.

I used the funfetti cake recipe from Sally's Baking Addiction blog to make the Chargers cake. The recipe calls for either yogurt (Greek, vanilla or plain) or sour cream to help suspend the sprinkles in the cake batter while it bakes. I used sour cream, and I am pleased to say that the sprinkles did not all settle and burn on the bottom of the pan.
